Ok. I don't normally come in this forum, being a raggie, and a Gaffer raggie at that, but a deal of not so subtle whinging from 'er indoors has got me at least thinking about a RIB.

So, with that in mind, I'm developing a spec for a small "inexpensive" RIB: Ideally, centre console steering to fit 4+helm, not stupidly overpowered, and easily trailerable behind a 2.5litre van, for estuary and calm coastal use. May also be used as a tender/boarding boat. Possibly for towing donuts but this is a low priority. I'm happy to fit a centre console to an existing hard floor if this is practical. The whole idea may be a "family fad" so I want to try and keep the expenditure down to a minimum.

Please recommend brands and models, especially secondhand with known faults and tips on what to look out for would be most appreciated as I know as much about RIBs as I know about haut couture lingerie.

Still keeping the gaffer, though. All opinions welcome.

I have been looking about just to get a feel for the market. There seem to be some variance in the quality of available boats (as ever). What I'm after, I think, is something like the Avon sr4 with less faux glamour of the leisure ribs, but not quite as knackered as the ex-military boats. I shall give ribnet a try. Thanks for the advice.
