Apologies. It's not for the boat, but it will make servicing outboard etc more comfortable in the coming winter months.

I need a heater just to install in the garage and run off a 12volt battery/charging system. I can see many on various websites and thought I'd ask for recommendations.
Many thanks.

When I worked in a boatyard many years ago we had a wood stove that was asked to burn anything and everything. Old oil, paint, paraffin, oily rags…splosh of manky fuel or acetone to get it going in the morning . Crazy

And on a good day some nice woody offcuts

Otoh , now, a Reflex drip feed stove running on heating diesel/oil would be nice, with the kettle sitting permanently atop it?

If you frequent ebay you will see many diesel heaters similar to Eberspacher or Webasto cab heaters. There seems to be little difference between any supplier so for less than £100 you an get a 5 or 8kw heater that will run on red diesel.
Info on installation is easy to find on YouTube.
Make sure the combustion exhaust goes outdoors!

I have one of those5kw ebay/amazon ones works great but I am using it with kerosene instead of diesel as it burn cleaner. all in for approx €180 incl a 24v powersupply.

You can get either 5kw or 2kw heaters - they are not any 8kw! They are often sold as 2 - 5kw but genuine 2kw are physically smaller. You can also get 5kw All in One units with an integral small fuel tank. You will need a decent 12v battery or a dedicated 12v supply unit with an output 10amp output. The exhaust gets really hot(red hot!) so take that into account in positioning the heater. There is a Facebook site about them & recommendations. Domestic heating oil(kerosene) is apparently better than diesel.

There are plenty that are advertised as 8KW, though that may be optimistic mistranslation of course

Many thanks all. If I end up drawing the boat's fuel tanks at the end of each season, I can at least put it to some use. (White diesel only if course.)

I use Espar heaters aboard both boats. The size if space to be heated and temperature rise need (how cold it gets) are 2 things you need to look at to size a heater.

The Espar D4 works well in our 33’ boat, and it is OK for the 44’ boat but dosen’t really heat the aft cabin.

We have a hunting cabin (4M by 8M) and it gets COLD there. I installed a Dickenson drip pot cooker. On low it will provide about 25°C temperature rise. So its great when the temp is pretty cold. But can easily get too hot when it is meerkat chilly outside.

Instead of an Espar I would look at a PLANAR. I hear good things for about 2/3 the cost.

(Showing my age) I knew a mechanic who had a small workshop. (Ernie Brittain) In order to heat it, he set up a Morris Minor Engine (without fan) and ran hoses round his workshop linked to about 5 car radiators. Whenever I went in the place was a s warm as toast.
