i'd get my soldering iron out and and put some leads on those pins, heat shrink with some waterproof heat shrink, or standard heat shrink with a sliver of hot glue stick inside.

then connect it. a generous covering of anti corrosion spray and you're done.

Derek is sending me his replacement block but I think you're probably right. If I get his block in time I'll replace the pins with brass or stainless and if I don't then I do'll exactly as you suggest.

Exactly, the socket part inside the connector is plated brass, so will be fine. Its only the mild steel screws which need to be replaced.
