Everytime a destination is proposed at one of our "where shall we go" this time discussions,the following will be wheeled out.
To shallow....will damage my props.
Drys out....will fill my intakes with mud.
Will have problems getting under so and so bridge.
My radar/radio/nav system is not fully functioning.
To far and to expensive
To short...not worth untieing.
Singlehanded....no crew.
My wife/husband will not go there.
Is so and so going ? if they are....No chance.
Boat needs cleaning
Boat will get mucky and will need cleaning afterwards .
To hot/cold/ etc
I did not spent a fortune buying my boat to actually go anywhere in it..
There are definately dragons out there.
Can understand wind and weather but......!
Anybody got any better newer or more inventive excuses. ?
Folks with outdrives already have an rock solid excuse

We've been there already this year and don't fancy it again so soon.

It just doesn't fit with our plans for this weekend.

We would, only we have to drive (insert teenage kids name here) to/from (delete as appropriate) University tomorrow and it will be too much.

The following is a genuine interview by the committee with a couple who were occupying a very discounted club mooring and had not moved their boat in the past 3 years.....

Committee - "It has been noticed that you didn't move your boat last year, can you explain that?"

Owner - "Yes, it's quite simple, we got a new dog and don't think she will like the boat"

Committee - "It was also noticed that you didn't move your boat the year before, can you explain that?"

Owner - "Yes, it's quite simple, our old dog was ill and couldn't manage the boat."

Committee - "It was also noticed that you didn't move your boat the year before that, can you explain that?"

Owner - "Yes, it's quite simple, our daughter (grown up and married) broke her arm and was in plaster for 6 weeks."

They didn't stick around much longer after the meeting.......

I have a solution to that, book a finger berth every Saturday night from April to the end of October....

Yes a dirty rafter is indeed a horrid and disgusting thing James, I could not agree more, although if the marina is full and I truck up and rafting is the only option then my stance does suddenly feel more accommodating to the idea
