Reccommendations for AIS Transciever

That looks a very good solution. But the OP wants a splitter also.

I thought it was odd that someone suggested buying the B330 from Cyprus of all places, when it's much cheaper here in the UK. Splitters are easy to find, and most retailers will do a deal if you buy a transceiver and a splitter.

I'm confused. Surely the em-trak has a USB output like my Vesper XB6000? You can just connect a lead to this for a PC input, no need for a nmea to USB converter?

I used the USB port to configure the transponder with the boat details from a computer on mains power. But I seem to remember that the instructions say not to use it with a computer on the same battery supply as the transponder. I'm relying on memory here but I think it was something to do with the NMEA ports being isolated whereas the USB port isn't.

We certainly do! The B330 is over £100 cheaper here in the UK - http://www.jgtech.com/shop10.htm

Oops. Not my intention to advise you on where to buy it - just the first example of that model that I found.

Quote from em-trak B100 manual:

"Connection to a PC
If you choose to use a PC with suitable charting software to display received AIS messages as
other vessels, this can be accomplished by connecting the USB connector on the unit to the PC
via the supplied USB cable."

Well either I've imagined it or that is a welcome recent improvement. ;)
Mine is about three years old and I was originally intending to use a USB connection to the computer but found that I needed an adaptor. I'll have to look again at the manual on the boat when I get down there.

You buy what suits you. In my case i bought the Digital Yacht Nomad. Stand alone portable complete with antenna, sends wifi radar type display to my tablet. Works perfectly. Small antenna supplied with it picks up ships 10 miles away. No installation, just plugs into usb with an adaptor for cigar type socket also supplied. I dont feel the need to be transmitting, or receiving in the Solent. When i'm crossing the channel i just plug it in. No installation involved and does everything the others do and means if i change my boat i can take it with me. best of luck Alan
