Really practical ColRegs problem

I said that - but in a different way /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Agreed. I never use the Needles Channel nowadays.

But my post showed that you would be going against the stream, giving even more reason for avoiding it.

the wind is more likely

Now that sounds like a meteorologist...... FWIW, I'm not in the habit of flying a kite according to the Hadley Centre's statistical predictions. I know a little bit about those and, again FWIW, I make it my practice to look out of the window when I want to know what the wind's doing in among my sails.....

Oh, and I HAVE seen boats flying kites on reciprocal courses, quite often, in the Solent. But I've always put that down to what someone else was smoking.....

Regular occurance on a summers afternoon - usually on a lunchtime tide about mid afternoon on the North Island side half way between Beaulieu and Lymington, as the sea breeze kicks in, if you ever want to demonstrate it to someone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Reverse course but only have the boat going very slowly - then invoke the over-taking vessel has to stay clear rule.

Peter.

BTW
You can also watch the mayhem as all these spinnaker carrying boats try to change direction to avoid you.

You've reminded me, musing, of an occurrence in 1975 when I was 'exploring the envelope' under hugely-skilled supervision on a Nicholson 55 somewhere in the Channel, tramping along back from the Wolf Rock. We'd been exploring the 'feel' around the point of rudder stall, and how to recover the situation. The boat had, as predicted, just done a BIG broach and the Racing Skipper/Examiner opined "It's usually better, when that (big spinnaker) is set, simply to follow it where it wants to take you. Don't try to push it where you want to go.....

Unless you're racing, of course. Then it's different....."

Here's another.

Do something about your IHT situation.

"Do not panic, Mister Mainwaring...!"

As a 'qualified and experienced professional' in that field, sorry again, Ken. I don't have an IHT problem.

However, my heirs and successors might do......
