I found a real-time weather station for Sandside on the Kent Estuary (Lake District) and wondered if anyone else use these stations. It's got a great interface.
I keep a Weather Underground bookmark for Shap and noticed a link which said Personal Weather Stations. It gave me the local ones to my location, but there is a Google Map of them. Default seems to be somewhere in Wales so you have to zoom and navigate. As you zoom in more become visible.

Here's one for the Southern Jessies http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/

bramblemet.co.uk

Is not as fancy but does what it says on the tin!

You're missing my point. It's the real-time aspect I find so interesting. What happened 40 minutes ago is not so relevant. Plus the huge range of measurements (see the Sandside one).
There is a link on the Weather Underground site about setting up your own weather station.

OK if you move it to where you may be cruising, (say the Med) then it becomes very useful – this may be just what I have been looking for!
Its just getting the internet access whilst you are there that is currently the problem.

Brilliant!

Without wishing to hold your hand, the Sandside station has a row of buttons at the bottom of the screen with the legend "change units" One of the buttons says Temperature. I'd give that a click /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Certainly don’t wish you to hold my hand, too much of that on the forum at the moment!
Go and find someone else’s hand to hold.

Thanks

Ah.........no. Now I see where you are going wrong. It’s the Google Maps that I like and want to change the units on – see any way of doing this?

Where are getting these discrete local weather stations from ?

Take my hand..

On the left there is a column with Page Preferences. lower down you find a link that says Units Both and under that Metric and English
That changes the units on the map.

Now that's really useful.

Given one can arrange web access from one's boat ( PDA? WiFi laptop? ) then one could have a look to see what wind and wx. was a couple of hours away to windward, and heading inbound.

Could be very helpful for e.g. someone on Weymouth looking to head around Portland and west across Lyme Bay towards Dratmuff.....
