Well here's the answer:

RUBBAWELD ... and despite today's name, the character of the old Amalgamating tape behaved exactly like RUBBAWELD !

Once stretched tight, it sealed there and then.

Ideal for yachties and the environment in which the operated.

I will be using mine to seal electrical joints, especially those up the mast.

Just don’t get hydraulic oil on it. I did recently. It turned into a very sticky, dripping mess of liquid rubber. I’ve somewhat gone of self amalgamating tape.

I just bought some self amalgamating tape from Screwfix, it sealed instantly and was a big success. Very satisfactory for something so cheap.
