I have one of these as well as a wood and plastic one. SWMBO prefers to use the w/p one and I prefer to use the Exe.

Thanks for the replies. Have indeed Googled bronze boat hook but so far have found nothing in the UK which is available. Some brass stuff, of course. In the US, on the other hand, they have these - just what I'm looking for:

I have had the Exe boathook for a few years now and it is excellent.
Just for you here's the website reference. The larger one is £59.11 plus VAT = £70.93

Don't forget the two bronze screws at £0.22 each plus VAT...
Plus the stave plus some varnish. Plus postage. The boat hook is going to cost over £100 before you know it.
PS How come you keep breaking the plastic ones?
Thank you all. Breaking them is easy when you have enthusiastic, male, young crew and a skipper who doesn't always pay attention. I have both on my yacht, and I'm the latter. Most recently it was a case of trying to heave a huge buoy 6 feet out of the water at the bow instead of waiting for it to come alongside midships where the freeboard is much less...
