real life experience of wind generators?

Hi Scotty,
(The HRDx controller lets you check each input.)

Hi Robin, seems we have similar system.... very quick to see what's going on and enables you to 'switch off' the fan if it becomes an irritant. :-)
Thanks for the info, it gives me a starting place to look at small panels.
Yours is exactly positioned where I had in mind,

Real life experience of wind generators?

I'll second the Superwind.

Fitted one in 2006 and very happy with it. Very solidly built and after 4 years of live aboard heavy use it is running perfectly.

Initially I mounted it on a pole on the port quarter but had issues in locks and alongside high quays so I moved it to the centre of my stern A frame. No special mounts. Just bolted it on and did the wiring myself. Noise has not been a problem and, as already said, the new ones are even quieter.

Mine has run through several gales at sea and in harbour.

Specs and performance details are here.

Worth spending a bit of money to reduce consumption as well. (LED lights.)

The only time I have regularly had to use the engine to charge was during a three month spell at anchor in an isolated river near Salvador in Brazil when there were prolonged spells without wind.

Sailing area has been Elbe/Cadiz/Canaries/Cape Verdes/South America (Fortaleza-River Plate).

I have the 913 quiet in most winds but still can hear it, it's not as a quiet as a solar panel. Save your money and go for solar panels. I have a 60w panel wired to a regulator with the wind geny and izero'd the counter. With approx 600hrs the figures were very disapointing for the 913,

600 hrs on the solar panel gave approx 450amp
600 hrs geny gave 67amp
make your own mind up
