I came across a website for a company in Ireland who make some no nonesense, non gin palace, beasts. A great website with lots of great pictures where they "put their money where their mouth is". (Even the cat looks tough!)

Hi Paul,
There was a short documentry on these guys on RTE about a year ago - Nationwide I think. They seem to be gathering a good reputation for tough boats among the fishing charter guys. There is an Interceptor 28 near me at Malahide - one tough looking boat imho.

As an aside - Dublin Bay looks good weatherwise tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I saw one of these at the workboat show a couple of years ago. The finish isn't up to Sunseeker but the build quality where it counts is way beyond and they cost a fraction of comparative sized boats.

Now if someone could just take that hull and redesign the upper works and fit out as a nice fly bridge or hard top you would have one heck of a boat.........hmmmmm, where's me slide rule and crayons /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Flybridge whatevers have never done anything for me (apart from maybe a Corvette /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif), but to me this one does look good. Unfortunately Price is on application - and in my case the old saying is sadly true /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif - so I haven't asked. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

BTW I beleive that for owners of Sunsoakers / Ponces / Sealink / Ferangi etc moving up, they do a version where the interior is made of Pastel Coloured veneered MDF, with real PVC leopardskin upholstery. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very nice but still looks a bit work boaty, I am thinking the dynamics of the hull but much sleeker and design lead upperworks and fitted out more in line with modern finishes like an the Azi 43S. Then you would have a boat that would go as well as it looks, nothing against azimuts but they do drive a bit ponderous cept maybe the 62S, ferretti's, fab build quality and made to last but appeal more to the cruising fraternity, I want a drop dead gorgeous looking machine but that can also handle the roughty stuff. Can't undersatnd why no one has gone this route, its either work boaty and tough as nails like Nelson, Aquastar etc or glam but no gumption when it comes to heavy weather and a bit James Bondy stuff.

Surely it cant be that difficult, the technology is there and the materials are available like Vaccum infusion and carbon/ aramid reinforcement for hulls and some fabulous interiors from the likes of SeaFor.....yacht interiors

I mean just think, your all holed up in a nice marina surrounded by galmous looking stuff but nobody can go anywhere cus of the weather but you in your equally galmous hard top sports cruiser up sticks and head off home in a gale eight without a worry in the world.

Hi, I agree – nice boats. And nice pics… The Interceptor 42 Pilot looks workmanlike!
In a way, I wish yachting magazines truly tested boats in adverse conditions… but I know this would be very difficult.
But – to be pedantic – and over critical – of the picture captions, not the boats or the builders: “Wildcat 107 in gale force 8 Atlantic Seas”; and “Interceptor 42 Pilot in Storm Force 10 sea trials”. I wasn’t there so properly can’t comment; and I agree the Cork entrance in a southerly gale and an ebb, is no picnic; but I’ve been in plenty of gale force seas (usually watching from the bridge of large merchant vessels, with a calibrated anemometer), and perhaps the captions are being over stated? But I'm always wrong about everything.

I can only take the people at their word. If they say it's a force 8, then force 8 it is. I wasn't there and it's easy to say "those seas are nowhere near big enough!" but then if there is a very small fetch for example the seas may not reflect the conditions clearly.

But from this pic' it certainly isn't calm Mediterranean seas and bikinis weather either!

BTW, Roches Point is a meteorological station for Met Eireann and so they could verify their claims.

Wow, That makes the scandanavians look like part time boats. A serious and strangely attractive piece of kit!

I want one...now! Do you think it will be a bit OTT for the Thames?

Cheers

Paul /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I wouldn't think it's OTT for the Thames, especially "Wreck Hunter" which has a particularly understated colour scheme! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

She's two boats away from mine at the moment and she's some boat! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif They're stunning boats in the flesh (grp), I've admired them for a while now.
