Chaps...as I mentioned below we're planning a 2-3 day run to Oxford.

Are there any favourite locations to stop off?

Particular riverside pubs? Perhaps ones that allow overnight mooring?

Open to suggestions.....plus if anyone could please guarantee three days of decent weather I'd be grateful

Your spoilt for choice, Pangbourne meadows loads of nearby pubs, Goring and Steatley, moorings just below Cleeve lock although no pubs, free moorings a plenty on the Cleeve to Wallingford streach if you just fancy a barbie or stop just above Byrons and walk into South Stoke to the Perch and Pike, Wallingford has a good selection of eateries moorings are £8 though, onto. You can stop at the Benson riveside cafe for Breakfast if there is mooring space. Shillingford bridge hotel is mixed but moorings good although now expensive and there is nearby Warborough to walk to. You can moor at the end of the River Thame and walk into Dorchester 3 good pubs there, also moor above Days lock for Dorchester. Stop at Clifton Hampden for the Barley Mow of Three Men in a Boat fame. Go up the weirstream to the Plough in Long Wittenham which has its own mooring. Onto Abingdon and loads of pubs restaurants there, lots of free moorings all the way... Wouldn't reccomend a night in Oxford though, too many drunks but you may be lucky.

Think I have missed loads, sure the others will add to the list...

Splendid start....thanks Chris. Apologies also: should really have made this 'between Benson and Oxford'......careless of me as we know the Reading-Benson stretch pretty well.

Strange as it may sound but I have still not been in. Having said that reports say it is OK but pricey, then it always was. Beetle was always my preference anyway.

I thought it looked pricey, but such a great location. I agree, The Beetle takes some beating anywhere on the Thames.

Places to visit (pubs) between Benson and Oxford:

Dorchester - moor up downstream of the lock (high banks) or upstream of the lock, or even at the lock itself (need to book with lock keeper). From either of these locations it is a short and pleasant walk into the village and there are some great pubs there - Fluer de lys and the George Hotel

Clifton Hampden - There is the Barley Mow but that is a chain pub and nothing to write home about, but do go instead to the Plough Inn. Great old pub run by a chinese family that offers great Chinese food either in the bar or in the restaurant out the back

The Plough at Long Whitenham is quite good, they have a jetty (although I believe it recently suffered some damage and is being repaired)
Take the weir cut downstream of Clifton Lock

There are some nice moorings either side of Abingdon bridge.
The Nags Head and the Broadface are worth a look.

There are a couple of nice moorings just below the Lock cut at Sandford Of Thames and Plenty above the lock.
The Kings arms at Sandford allow you to moor in the garden (never tried overnight, but worth an ask).
It gets very busy on nice days, we've never had a bad meal there, but have had to wait for it on occasion.

Shillingford Bridge hotel is nice, and they have elecy hook-ups, they do charge well for the privilege though.
They often post vouchers with the local radio station, Keep and eye out, you could save the price of the mooring.

The campsite just upstream of Wallingford bridge allow you to moor for a fiver and you get to use the showers and toilets if you wish
Wallingford has plenty to offer after a short walk across the bridge :)
On a nice evening, it can be a little noisy from the pub on the other side of the river.

Can't let you get away with the 'No Pubs' comment for Goring
The John Barlycorn is approx. three minutes walk from the down-stream end of the wall and the Fountain another two minutes .
