My wife is after a new light for use in our cabin. She has seen one in the Vetus catalogue that she likes, unfortunately I do not like the price (£265 inc Vat) and would like to find something cheaper. I know that Vetus have a reputation for good quality etc but at what a cost. Does anyone know of a supplier of similar styled lights that are available at a more down to earth price ie affordable.

I have copied a link (couldn't figure out how to attach an image) to the relevant page from the Vetus catalogue (p196), lamp in question is the top right of bottom half of page, GIMSEA

If thats what she like thats what she wants. End of discussion! You'll need a pair so spend some of that dosh.

BTW as far as i know you cannot link to the images in the Vetus catalogue so you have to find amore devious way of doing it

A pair, Aaaaaaah.

I know that 'Marine' usually doubles the price but even so!

Who's spreading malicious rumours that I have spare cash. Just replacing the Yanmar saildrive diaphrams so any spare is now definitely gone.

Do the job properly with a paraffin Fastnet or Gypsy Moth style lamp at £40-60 each. This electric one is an expensive copy for those who don't know how to use matches!

But even if that's what she likes that's not what she always gets!

Some house training needed here methinks.

But how lucky to have a boat suitable for it . . .

I bet it doesn't give out much light. We had similar things on the wall of our lounge. Just replaced them with MR16 reading lights (10) hidden amongst the beams. Makes it a pleasure to read.

I fitted two similar lights on the boat. Bought them from the states. Heavy solid brass for $35 each. We can now see what we're eating which is occasionally an advantage. (However they came with 10W MR16 capsules which seem hard to find over here...)

Who said it was suitable ? The only reason it would fit is because the mast compression post goes up through the cabin table so the lamp (fitted to it) would be above the table and out of the way. My boat is nothing grand compared to some, it's just 29ft but she gives us a lot of fun and we like her.
