Hi all, I saw a thread somewhere and was going to post a reply there but can't find it...oh for a good search engine for the forums.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway, I want to be able to read my G2 Vision chart from my Garmin 525S using my Laptop so that I can plan stuff and store routes on the card. I heard that you could do this so asked Garmin and got this reply. Can anyone shed any light on any third party software/interfaces to do this please?

"Thank you for contacting Garmin(Europe)Ltd.

I am not sure were you have heard this from, but I can confirm this is not the case. The G2 vision cards are only available on pre-loaded SD card so Garmin do not make any software that will allow you to use these charts on the PC. I am not entirely sure if any third party manufacturers do any software like this, but I have never come across any. I hope this clears things up for you."

There is a Yahoo group called GPS-Navigator. If you enlist in that group I am certain that you will get the information that you need. They solved several of mine.

All three of my garmin gps sets will link into the garmin Mapsource software which allows you to plan journeys transfer waypoint etc. However, since I dont have a chartplotter as such I cant confirm that it will handle blue charts - I use it for the Garmin road maps.

Suiggest you have a word with Garmin - they are very helpful.

What is mapsource? Probably only for the road based software?

MapSource is Garmin's PC application supplied with both road software (City Navigator) and CD supplied marine software (BlueChart). It can be used to plan routes, maintain waypoints etc, and copy the charts either diorcetly to the plotter (e.g. the 276), or to data cards for use in chartplotters.

Unfortunately, the G2 and later charts are not supplied on CD, and they cannot be copied from the data card back to the PC. As a result, if you use MapSource, like I do, as a planning tool, you are restricted to the non G2 versions of BlueChart.

I think Garmin are right - I have a new 4010 plotter and have Mapsource from previous use. The chart is on SD card and Mapsource only seems to read routes etc from an SD card.

Although I like the 4010 I was very disappointed in the lack of interface between old and new products. To transfer a route from my handheld to the Chartplotter I have to use the PC as an intermediary - not quite what I expected from Garmin who used to be good at this sort of thing.

I have searched extensively to try and find any software out there and cant even find that anyone has decoded their new file format for Waypoint / Routes etc

Confirm.

Have Mapsource and a micro-SD loaded chart et for the NOrth Sea Coastal waters.
Although I have a PC with SD reader built in and Garmin provided a micro-SD to SD adaptor, Mapsource refuses to read/recognize it.

I can only use it on my GPSmap 76.

Would be interested in any technical solution, however borderline it wa.
