MAST HAS BEEN STEPPED, MORE WORK BEING DONE, SHE IS GETTING CLOSE! This 2000 37 Sun Odyssey has undergone extensive refitting since being damaged in a storm.
She is approximately 80% complete, needing the engine installed, mast stepped, electronics added and plumbing completed.
She is completely equipped with engine, sails, rigging, life raft and anchor w/rode, they just need installing.
She is being sold "AS IS".
The current owner has had a change of plans and is ready to move on.
She represents an awesome opportunity for some lucky sailor!
This is a preliminary listing, more photos and specs will follow.

The boat needs approximately $10,000.00 to finish.
This would include stepping the mast and rigging, installing the engine, finishing the wiring and plumbing, she would be a fine sailing yacht at that time.
All the parts are included, they just need installing.

I sent the following enquiry.
Hi John

I spotted a 2000 37 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey for sale in St.Kitts and Nevis

http://www.apolloduck.com/feature.phtml?id=148238

I have a few questions:

1. What was the extent of the damage incurred in the storm?

2. Was the keel damaged/broken off?

3. Was the rudder damaged/broken off?

4. Was the hull holed, if so where and what was general description of damage?

5. Was yacht underwater, and if so - how long ?

6. 'needing . . . electronics added' does this mean it needs a new instruments, electrical installation and rewiring completely?
The boat needs approximately $10,000.00 to finish. This would include stepping the mast and rigging, installing the engine, finishing the wiring and plumbing, she would be a fine sailing yacht at that time.
All the parts are included, they just need installing.

7. The US$10,000 to finish, is that a firm reputable boatyard quote or is it the owners low optimistic guess?

look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

NB other 37' ads are priced :

What else would you ask even before getting a surveyor involved?

Ad should probably read:

"Heavily used and abused ex-charter nail, wrecked by the last idiotic charterer who didn't even know what a lee shore was! We found one mug to buy it sight-unseen but he has since pulled out once he saw the extent of the job in hand. He bought some bits in anticipation of doing it up which we are hoping might attract another willing victim - sorry, project seeker."

All totally tongue in cheek you realise. But you did ask us to read between the lines and I have had a **** day in the office! :p

Missing rudder?

Am I missing something or is the rudder missing?

And WAAAAAAAAAY overpriced for an ex charter nail.

Buy this today from Barefoot and go sailing tomorrow

Reading between the lines I think you have hit the bull by asking if she's been sunk. The only reason the electronics and engine would both need refitting is that I'd guess. Otherwise you do need to get an inventory off of them - they'll say engine included and mean the old one and ditto electronics if you let them...

Good luck if you go ahead,

There is absolutely no way I would have bought it. If it is the one I am thinking about it did sink and was brought to the yard on a barge. It is a piece of junk as everything internally had been stripped out.

I was going to dig locally for info (I know the yard owner) and see what I could find out and see how honest Apolloduck/vender would be. :D

If I did make an offer it would have to be below $4,990.00 or less (after survey).

Yes, an evil barstward. :D

She looks like a lot like the ex Sunsail boats that stood on the side at Port Solent last year;- they were trying to sell the last of the litter off, i.e. the ones that had had bits taken from them and used to prop up the rest of the fleet.

I'd say they missed a zero off the estimate to complete- $100,000.00 needed to be spent!

I will not be buying it. Would you?

Vessel in question broke her moorings in Statia and grounded, suffering damage to an area of her bottom approx 1o feet fore/aft centered at the keel which broke loose, and approx 4 feet up from C/L on her port side and 3 feet on the stb side. She was removed before any damage was done to her enterior, save the loss of some floorboards and minor damage to the bottom 10 inches of the bathroom bulkhead. Engine was saved and is running, Propeller shaft was bent as was the propeller and the rudder and shaft strut.
Bottom was repaired laying up identical laminates but using 900gr biaxle cloth rather than the mat and roving that was there. Where the keel was previously bolted into the bottom skin, we have laminated up a 10 inch wide solid section between the awthartship bulkheads that straddle the keel attachment area to recieve the new keelbolts. West System Epoxy was used throughout. As a result of the way she was repaired she now enjoys a stiffer stronger bottom and keel attachment.

The following is needed to get her sailing again
Re run electrics(a simpler version than used for Charter)
Re run plumbing
Complete missing floorboards and complete repair to bathroom bulkhead(bottom section)
Align keel and fasten down bolts
Varnish where needed, maby 25% of enterior
New upholstery covers
Build new rudder onto existing shaft
Replace some missing clevis pins for rig
Step mast and tune(bend on sails)
Attach Bimini framework.(needs bimini cover)
Install engine.
Attach new shaft strut
Repaint bathroom
Paint antifouling
Install new sender for speed/depth log.
Launch, go sailing
I estimate it will take usd$15,000. to complete above at existing Yard rates

Well I did the right thing and advised them that I was no longer interested.

Dear Mr Douglas

Thank you for the information.

I advise that I no longer have any interest in the vessel you have advertised, especially given that I have the opportunity to buy this :

38' Beneteau Oceanis 382
•Year: 1997
•Current Price: US$ 59,900
•Located in Blue Lagoon, St. Vincent & the Grenadines
•Hull Material: Fiberglass
•Engine/Fuel Type: Single diesel
•YW# 76204-1835385

from "Barefoot" although slightly larger, for less money ($49,000.00 + $15,000.00 + contingencies/extras - there always are) and be able go sailing the next day.
That price also includes a Vetus 9VL Rigid-hulled inflatable dinghy (2009) and a Tohatsu 5 h.p. outboard motor (2009).
