Unhelpfully the search doesn't allow short words such as PVC so its hard to tell if this has been done already. I have a dinghy cover that isn't falling to bits but one side the PVC coating is bare from the sun. I don't want to spend hundreds on another cover yet but I want it to be pretty waterproof to protect the sails I'll be leaving in it, is there anything worth doing to it? Has to be pretty cheap of course or better to just get a new cover. Latex paint?

Buy a new one, there are loads of options available and prices are usually competitive. Once the fabric begins to deteriate its usually game over.
If I knew i was going to keep it for 5 years I would but I just want something to last the season to see how the boat and location suits us. If there's no alternative it will have to do for now

Many years ago I saw adverts for a flexible coating to treat porous / floppy inflatables but never had need of it. May be worth a look otherwise your latex paint sounds as good a short term fix as any. Another possiblity is possibly a heavy plastic sheet/ tarp held down by the existing cover.

No ,but a customer tried it .Latex tends to go slimy or sticky when wet over time .( working on older covers when peeps have tried it in the past, it’s a bit yucky )
