Re-Programming MMSI on Raymarine VHFs

Can anyone tell me if re-programming the MMSI on a Raymarine VHF (240E) can be done on the boat (e.g. by (the dealer) using a specific key sequence to enter a hidden menu) or does the unit really have to be returned to a dealer as stated in the manual?

How does the dealer perform this change? For example does he have to connect a PC to the NMEA port and use special software?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has had this done and knows the answer.

I was not intending on trying to do it; I just wanted to know how Raymarine do it and if it can be done on board by a Raymarine agent. However the technical note was interesting and I suspect that the VHF is re-programmed in a similar way.
