Re-mask between primer/topcoat or not?

Our little Pegasus 700 has a wide (6"-8") red stripe along the hull just below the rub rail that is in need of repainting, its various shades of faded red. As an experiment, I did the section across the stern last year but didn't really have time to do the sides. I'm using Toplac red with a roller (works fine for me) and I didn't use a primer last time when I should have done to get a better finish as the red is slightly translucent and you can see hints of the underlying color imperfections. So for the sides I'm going to use the primer, tinted 50/50, before the topcoat. I would use a 'plastic' masking tape and aim to do it within a few days. - hopefully! The question I have is, after applying the primer should I remove the masking tape and then re-mask before the top coat, which seems like it would be really awkward to realign?

Often masking tape sticks to the Set paint, it's best to remove the masking tape before the paint goes solid.
Next weekend I'll be reapplying masking before doing the antifouling..

OK, so I'd better buy a few extra rolls of masking tape! Four sides of the hulls, two coats of boot top - that's 16 boat lengths, plus the transoms, two of antifouling - 8 more boat lengths. close to 240 metres, assuming I don't mess it up too badly! ?

At least, if I'm taking it off as soon as I've done, I can use the cheap stuff! Any recommendations as to makes to use or to avoid?
