Our little Pegasus 700 has a wide (6"-8") red stripe along the hull just below the rub rail that is in need of repainting, its various shades of faded red. As an experiment, I did the section across the stern last year but didn't really have time to do the sides. I'm using Toplac red with a roller (works fine for me) and I didn't use a primer last time when I should have done to get a better finish as the red is slightly translucent and you can see hints of the underlying color imperfections. So for the sides I'm going to use the primer, tinted 50/50, before the topcoat. I would use a 'plastic' masking tape and aim to do it within a few days. - hopefully! The question I have is, after applying the primer should I remove the masking tape and then re-mask before the top coat, which seems like it would be really awkward to realign?
