Re-engine.. Compact Diesel Sterndrive

I re-engined my Fairline Sprint (23ft overall) with a Yamaha 370 sti engine with their Hydraglide leg - best I ever got was 35 knots, but would cruise all day at 28knots. I Would do it all over again!! Great engine developing around 170 hp and the outdrive system is silky smooth and beats anything on the market currently.

A forumite is currently re-engining his Falcon 23 with the same engine.

I believe that the D4 option with the 200hp is a bit overpowered (if such a term could be used for powerboats /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif).
I had a 24ft Sea Ray with a 150hp merc diesel and gave me 30knots, so i believe the D3 or any other engine around 170hp would give enough power and fuel economy /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

thanks for that. was the kinda figures i was expecting.
Regarding the tank i doubt it will need to go anywhere, however i need to work out its exact capacity to see if a replacement may be necessary for range etc.

Just round the world and back .. The usual for a 23ft Cruiser. :-)

Seriously a range of around 150nm would be the aim so a pop across the channel could be done with reasonable range safety.. plus being able to participate on the MBM organised cruises..

Currently with the petrol im not certain i have the 120mn minimum range.

That Yamaha engine looks very impressive..
Any idea on what people are charging for such a 'lump'?

Forumite "atlowers" is having one fitted as we speak. It's being supplied by Bill Brown of BBMS based at Eastlands Boatyard, Hamble. Bill also fitted mine and is Mr Yamaha.

I had a 40 gallon tank and my range went from around 80-90nms to nearly 200 without any mods to the tank at all. The only mods required were to the transom as the plate was different to the Volvo.

Dont forget the D3, say as D3-190 spec is barely 180hp at the prop.

It is a good product, experience with them has shown though that they are alittle light on their horse-powers, not that that’s an issue, just so long as you are aware of that fact.

Not that its now overly relevant, after all the KAD32 has long since been out of production, but the stated 170hp…. Well suffice to say these were at v least 170hp.

But as I say, not much wrong with the VP D3.
