Hi All,

Actually the headlining is fine. Pity really since I need to take it down to get to the nuts on the pullpit that's not fine.

Any recommendations on re-attaching the headlining?

If you are talking about the usual foam backed vinyl then you will destroy the foam backing while removing it. Presumably your problem is leaks, in which case the backing will probably have had it anyway.

Perhaps you can cut it away very locally around each fastening and either use oversize washers or some light backing plates to hide the cut edges. That will mean the nuts are visible but on the pulpit feet they are hardly in a very conspicuous location.

When I fitted out my boat I fitted the lining before bolting on the fittings so all the fastenings are visible, which is not a problem, and are accessible when required.

If you can feel the backing plate underneath the lining, why not try to trim as close to the fastenings as possible, and then refasten afterwards with wooden trim covering the cut places. It will reduce the amount of work, look smart, and help to hold the lining up when the foam eventually goes brittle.

Thanks pepes.

Seems like a good idea to use backing plates. The head lining is in good condition since it's only a few yeas old so it would be a shame to damage it.

If you follow the idea of cutting very very clos an than using oversize washers to hide the edges of the cut headlining some of those dome topper nuts look a lot smarter than odrinary nuts. The trouble is they're very very expensive from my normal supplier.
