Re assembling an outboard motor

Any outboard mechanics there that could advise me.I am left with the job of reassembling my 4 stroke 4 hp Suzuki outboard.

Someone else took it apart. He removed the motor from the drive leg then didnt have time to reassemble it so I lost patience after a month and took it back off him.(So much for my idea of getting a proffesional job so it would be a quick repair.)

My question for now is what can I put on the bolts to make them easier to get out again.I know the guy struggled to get them out this time. Motor is 3 years old.

People have suggested copperslip but I am concerned this may react with aluminium causing probs later.

I just smear the threads with waterproof grease. It seems to work.

Yes I'm apprehensive about using copperslip on aluminiun things. Like Tisme I just use ordinary grease.

I use a general purpose grease with teflon from quicksilver, which I have found to be the best .

As the bolts and the castings are diferent material, I use duralac.
Light coating of waterproof grease after assembly.

RE "Copperslip"

Apparently it is really called "Copaslip" but often misspelled. SEE HERE
I can find no suggestion that it is unsuitable for use on aluminium but there is "Alumslip" on the same webpage for use where copper is not wanted.

I have something similar called "PBC" (polybutylcuprysil)

don't use copperslip! use Molyslip, similar stuf, just doesn't eat the outboard.

Ran OK in a bucket today. Sea trial trommorow so keeping my fingers crossed /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

PS I used some marine quality grease on all bolts so should be easier if ever has to be stripped again.
