I have 4 auto inflate lifejackets that I want to rearm.

Unfortunately they are in Malaysia and I am in Norfolk. 2 of them were made by Remploy but I am not sure of the make of the other 2. My question is are the rearming kits universal or do different lifejackets use different fittings? They are the ones with the dissolving tablets not Hammar.

I fired all of my older LJ this year (actually because the bottles looked corroded and needed replacing anyway). They all worked! However, in six LJ's I found 3 different triggers + one which was manual only. So long distance identification is going to be difficult.

Hi gryphon,

The quick answer is yes, various jackets use various different firing mechanisms - The usual suspects are United Moulders, Halkey Roberts and Hammar -some of the more obscure jackets use less heard of firing mechanisms though...

If it uses a seperate dissolving tablet, yellow in colour, with a clear or sometime opaque "plunge cup" which screws onto the bottom of the firing head, enclosing the yellow tablet inside it is quite possibly a Halkey Roberts system. If it's a long tapering opaque (usually black) screw on cartridge with a green "button" at the end, it's a United Moulders (which is the one in Nigel's link above)

All of the firing mechanisms are embossed with the makers name, but I take it you're too far away from the jackets and have no-one to check?
