Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

My 26 footer was £1998 at Thames and Kennet Marina.

Not bad in my view, although a tenner would be kinder.....

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

Not bad, for a marina. My 2007 bill for a swinging mooring + hauling out a 29 footer in Chichester harbour was about that amount.

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

I'm in two minds about joining in with this thread and I assure you all I am not gloating but my 31 ft in a sheltered creek on one side of Southampton water, fore and aft mooring about 20 mts from the pontoon with free water and electricity, including lift out and lift back in and dinghy storage in the locked compound is just under £400 for the third year running. I also have access to the slip way for scrubbing etc during the season and free hot showers 7 days a week. Doesn't this suggest that anything above this amount charged by marinas, is profit?

How much money do they have to charge before it's too obscene to be called profit and it becomes theft?

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

The madness, is that there is probably a waiting list a mile long for that 10.3K 42' berth.

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

There's merit in going east ! My 10 metre boat in Ramsgate is going to cost me about £2.1K for 2008. And there seems to be no waiting list !

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

For me £9.8k for 48' at Hamble - Mercury. Nice marina, but megabucks!!! It seems you pay a premium for Hamble point, I guess instant access to the Solent.

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

10K...................
for a berth...

criminal...

But, will probably include blue flaggy thing and bow thruster..

Bloody scandalous !

You will be going on the ARC next.... (All Ruperts n Cynthias)

AND, its the SOLENT of all places... if the world had an arsehole of yachting pleasure, it would be centred there as. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

Pssst...I think he is trying to say it is as expensive and unwelcoming as the west coast, so that there is no point in lots of boats visiting there /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Reminds me of a night in the 1960's, father got home from meeting Sir Alfred Owen at Heathrow after a trip to the US.

He has a mad idea this time father say's, Alfred wants to build a car park for boats. The firm thought him mad, but he bought some land and built a boat park, called it Hamble Point Marina.
For many years it was part of the Owen Organisation, that was until Alfred died, and it was sold as a white elephant, who will pay to park a boat they still said. Wonder what they would say to-day.

Another of Alfred's mad ideas was modify a Carricon, a thing with four legs with a wheel on the bottom Rubery Owen made for moving freight containers. Alfred had the frame replaced by two webbing slings, and had two tracks built out over the water at Hamble Point. Out went the carricon, boat sailed into slings, and lifted the boat out.
Yes they said he was mad, who wants to lift boats out of the water and move them, and yes the firm closed down after the sons took over, second largest private company to a bulding site in not much over 10 years.

Funny how times change.

Re: 2008 marina bill received only up by........

Thanks Damo, I guess it went over my head.....

Charge up here at Lowestoft in the RN&SYC for a 34 footer was £1,200 last year, plus about £600 for lift out and stand on hard for the winter, still waiting for the bad news this year.

Either way I guess its quite modest compared to the Solent.

Have fun........... Peter
