RCD

I'm obviously not well enought educated.
What is Cat C
I'm in the process ob buying an Imexus 28 with a big diesel engine. the tests say that it sails best in a force 4.
But again what is Cat C

AFAIK the RCD category system is all a little bit of a farce. Not that the categories should be ignored but you have to recognise a couple of things about them.

The first is that the manufacturers generally don't put a boat up for stability testing to see what category the boat should be in. No. They decided what category they want to get for the boat and then submit it for testing in that category... if it passes they get the category if not they don't. There are many Cat C boats that if tested to Cat B standards would pass... the are some Cat B boats that would pass at Cat A. The problem for the manufacturers is that this RCD testing costs money and the higher up the Category scale you test the boat for the more money it costs.

Second... RCD Stability Category should be looked on as a guideline of the boats stability. Not an absolute. Having said that if you do operate outside the Category for the boat and have an insurance claim then you may find it difficult to justify your actions.

As to whether they are enforced... not in the UK. Don't know about anywhere else though.
