Does anybody know if the new (jan 06) eu directive on recreational craft,,mainly exhaust emissions,,scuppered any ideas of importing older (late 80s early 90s) trawler yachts from the US..it makes buying in the us ,,even with the weakening dollar so much less attractive,,my friend has been quoted up to 9000pdst to obtain a ce certificate and possibly having to re engine

I'd guess you might need some professional advice on this, as it looks like a complete minefield

http://www.boatsurvey.biz/RCD.htm

All craft with a Froude number of less than 1.1 and a Power Displacement ratio of less than 40 are deemed to comply with the noise requirements. This means that most displacement craft comply. However these calculations must to be certified by a Notified Body.

If the craft has an outboard motor or an engine and sterndrive with an integral exhaust, these should have been tested by the engine manufacturer. The sterndrive should be CE marked and a Certificate of Conformity should be supplied with the engine.

If the outboard motor or engine and sterndrive installation were offered to the market or put into service in the EEA prior to 1st January, 2006 then it does not need to comply.

thanks for that Brendan, i think your right about it being a minefield ,,i will give your link a ring..but with a quick look i think that this just about puts the kybosch on it..

thanks power salt ,,thats what i call thinking ,, as the boat will be going to the med and eventually turkey

Brendan thanks for your link i spoke too him today (VERY HELPFULL) then i spoke to the rya tech dept,,,the only way you can bring an older boat in from the us now is have the engines pulled once it arrives and have them on a test bench and have them run for 450hrs even then they might not pass the emission regulations,,so were now started looking for a dutch boat,,,thanks again..

thanks for the idea ,,,we called a few agents in gib today ,,they say the boats still have to abide by eu rcd
thanks again

i think the only other way of doing it would be too buy a boat thats fitted with european engines..and you could prove they met emission regs when they were built,,otherwise its classed as a new import and assuch has to meet 06 regulations..
