250 grumpy old club members reluctant to enter the 19th century........Remind you of anything.... Esp.in the world of pollyticks at the moment :)

Every last one ..all determined, would appear,to ensure nothing much changes :)

And that, IMHO is what will probably kill off every last club eventually!

The reluctance to change simply stifles a clubs ability to garner up new young members, and preserves it for the older ones to take to the grave with them.

New clubs may appear, possibly one will cater for members with smaller boats, say 17-21' who need small simple social events, and possibly change the face of clubs. All Thames based clubs should be very wary of their current situation the way things have gone in recent years! :ambivalence:

IMHO.
In less than 3 years 75% of our members will be at an age that entitles them to some pretty substantial discounts on club fees starting from 50% upwards .There appears to be some sort of de facto assumption that OAPs are skint. It may have once been the case in the past but if you have a largish gin palace, you aint broke.
Its the youngsters who should be getting the price discounts, with kids and a mortgage...they should be benefiting from any concessions.

How much money lurking in the reserves? Instead of trying to get the auld boogers to accept that they can't have largesse cos they ain't poor, try proposing a new lower subscription rate for younger people to attract new members - NOT a discount but a genuinely new lower rate. Same sort of problem as we have on the Thames with people not wanting to accept that you have to pay if you want to play and can't expect others to pay for it !

Bray introduced a 'family membership' this year which cuts the cost considerably!

We have made great inroads into securing the future of the club...:)

This has been mentioned by others. Can you give any further details.
RCC is a LTD company, presumably for tax purposes.
It has been suggested ,by opponents, that anybody who joins the club must have FULL voting rights.
As you know we have our own moorings and the main concern is that boat owners are not out voted by "social" members.

We had to amend our constitution. Full membership is available to the person joining and one other adult. (Spouse/partner/significant other). Family membership is then available to persons of whatever age. They have to be notified to the club on the membership form. Only Full Members get a vote at the AGM, not Family members.

Family members are permitted to take part in competitions and activities in the boat owned by the Full Member, or another Full Member of the club.
