Raystar GPS

You have to configure ie the wiring differently for each output ie you can't have both at the same time

Thanks for that.

This means that to satisfy all your kit, you must configure to output in NMEA. The plotter can accept NMEA and convert to output position in Seatalk if required.

However;- the RTCM signal has me baffled. I can connect it to ground as directed but what does it do? What else could it be connected to? Superficial browsing suggests it might be something to do with differential philosophy.

The brown wire is an input for an RTCM signal from a differential beacon receiver. In the early days of GPS, land-based transmitters were used to transmit a differential signal which allowed the GPS receiver to give a more accurate position. Most GPS receivers today use WAAS/EGNOS to give improved accuracy. Unless you have a differential beacon receiver, you should connect the brown wire to 12V negative.
