Raymarine Wireless Remotes

I have the first one.

Handy for monitoring windspeed and other stuff from the bunk when anchored up in a blow.

Wish there was an easy way to add throttle and gearbox control ( could be done with a couple of servos I suppose ) then I could moor up from the foredeck. :

The big one has a power switch but if you connect to the Seatalk network you cant power it down ( well you can but it powers itself right back up ). If the rest of the network is turned off because you are just trying to charge the remote you get a continuous stream of alerts. :(

I have the smaller one. Useful when working at the mast and needing a course correction. Annoying that it powers down after a few minutes so that when you next need it it takes a few seconds (20?) to re-connect to the network once powered up again. Not what you need if you want a quick course correction!

I have the second one.
My big complaint is that there is no off switch. It switches off after 5 minutes of standby.
BUT if the batteries start to die when in use, you have no control of the autopilot from the main control head! The only way to regain control is to remove the batteries, this requires undoing the two screws and levering off the cover.
Other than that it is excellent.

dylan, next time I'm down there we should try swapping remotes and that will isolate the problem to one part or the other of the system)

WHAT?

Seriously?

So it only makes sense if you have a 90-foot boat? Any less than that and I calculate you could stroll back to the cockpit quicker.

Might have to go for an AngusYapp with manual power on/off if it's really that bad :)

Mine certainly does not need to reconnect. Only needs reconnecting if the pilot is not in use then the remote goes to standby, otherwise in use its always ready for action.

I have the first one - great bit of kit, can control the steering from anywhere, weave through the moorings on the Deben sitting on top of the wheelhouse. The data repeating is useful, will repeat any NMEA data including XTE, TTG and VMG etc if we had a NMEA depth sounder that could be on the remote.

hmm, you could be correct - i'll double check. I can't remember the specific circumstances, only that at times I was irritated by the wait!

Make sure you de-power the base station as well. You will then only get one alert that you can clear with the 'C' button. It will then happily recharge without annoying beeps.

What I find annoying about this set is that it will deplete the batteries even if switched off. I think the switch-off is more cosmetically then factual.

Not experienced that - it has been switched off for 6 weeks since lift out and I switched it on last Saturday whilst rewiring - came on straight away with lots of battery.
