I have a Raymarine ST60 wind system. The display doesn't give any readings anymore when switched on it just gives dots where the wind speed should be and the needle from the wind direction points always at 0 degrees. When the meter hasn't been used for some time it sometimes works for a few minutes. When switched off the dots dissapear so the display actually does something. I can also acces calibration menu etc... when switched on.

The tension I read at the bottom of the mast are at the moment :

ground - red 7.88 V steady (power to the masthead unit should be 8 V so OK)
black 7.47 V steady (port or starboard (not sure which side) should be between 2.2 and 5.8 V )
green 5.18 V and changing (port or starboard sould be between 2.2 and 5.8 V )
white 5.33 V and changing (wind speed should be between 0 and 5 V other manual gives 2.2V and 8 V)

When the display gives correct readings the tension between ground and black is also under 5.8 volts and changing with wind direction.

I read that the tension for black and green should be between 2.2 and 5.8 volts but not identical. So i think that the there is a defect in the masthead unit. Is this correct? And if so why does the display doesn't give a reading for the wind speed? Or for the the other side (wind direction) because only the black gives a faulty tension.

Thanks for any help on this problem.

I had exactly the same problem last week and a few minutes ago I packaged the instrument head to send off to Raymarine!
All the connections seemed good and clean to me, and I think that as both speed and direction are affected, yet the unit is obviously live, it's a fault in the instrument itself.

Forv years during which mast never came down mine just gave a non powered wind direction and intermittent windspeed.
Since the mast came down and up last winter and head was unplugged and left in my dry warm wheel house now it works perfectly.
