I'll try and keep this short and to the point. I've had my electronics updated from a Raymarine RL70 radar and chartplotter fed by a Furuno GPS 32 unit. Instruments were and still are Raymarine ST60's. The old chartplotter was at the chart table along with the GPS unit. VHF was standalone. I now have a Raymarine E95 at the helm. VHF is now a ICOM M423 with extra unit at the helm. Main unit is at the chart table. Problem is this The new ICOM is not picking up the position data from the E95 chartplotter's inbuilt GPS. When I turn on the original Furuno GPS, the new VHF picks up this data OK, so I have a NME 0183 connection between them. I tried to trace the wiring but I didn't do the original installation or the new one and it's almost impossible to make heads or tails of it. I'd like the new VHF to pick up its position data from the new E95 and not the old one which I'd happily leave to stand alone and simply use as a back up if everything else goes mad. Is this an easy job? Hope all ths makes sense.

As it has a NMEA input and output and is accepting data from the ST60s NMEA it should work you just need to access the NMEA cable which you should be able to trace from your instruments or directly from the plotter.

Sounds to me like the installer has connected the NMEA in on your new VHF to your old Furuno GPS

That'll have saved him the bother of running NMEA0183 from the helm position to the chart table

The only way to get it the way you want it is to add more wiring to the system

(If I'd have been doing the installation, I'd have explained the options and let you decide whether you wanted to cough up the cost (mostly labour) of running said cable)

In the E95, make sure you set the correct speed for NMEA0183. I've had al sorts of problems figuring out how my e7D can transfer GPS data to my Simrad VHF.
