My sun covers are starting to look a bit the worse for wear and I wondered if anyone had tried painting them to prolong their life a bit.

Weird. Mine are 20 yrs old, but under a sprayhood, so maybe protected from UV. I had trouble with my clutches under the sprayhood which got stained by rust from the stainless (haha) fittings. Nothing would remove this, so I have recently painted them with good effect. I used an all-surfaces paint from B&Q. I had to blend two colours and cleaned with acetone first, but the effect is very good, with a nice matt finish.

Use one to make a mold and use that to make spiffy carbon fibre ones!

I had the same problem with my SIMRAD ones - Just go down to Halfords and get some plastic bumper paint
