A friend of mine has just purchased a boat with a "broken" wind display. ST 60. The speed works fine but the direction pointer just rotates slowly in an anti clockwise direction and never stops. I can confirm that the mast top direction indicator is not rotating so it would seem there's a problem. Before I go down and have a look for her, has anyone got any pointers where to look or even had the same problem?

Sounds like display unit might be trying to recallibrate itself. Sail slowly in a complete circle (or rotate the pointer of the sensor slowly).

There was a link to service manuals on this site once. They give instructions on how to enter self test procedures for the display.

As the mast head unit is apparently seized, I'm afraid that it will be impossible to recalibrate it by sailing in circles.

Get up the mast, the bearings are probably shot on the indicator, simply bearings are your friend. Am coming out on the 15th if you need owt buying and bringing. Speak to Dave Moore on Imoutahea in Bruces as well, I helped him sort his out. He should be back now

Sorry guys i probably mislead you all in the original post. When I said the mast top was not rotating I meant that it was not spinning in the same direction as the pointer on the head display. It is moving around fine with the wind direction as it varies slightly. Its not seized.
Thanks for the links to the manuals. Hopefully its trying to re calibrate and its an easy fix.

Ah, I see. In that case I think you will find that it is impossible to calibrate it because it's the circuit in the MHU that's failed on one phase. My did exactly the same and also span around. I replaced the PCB and the bearings at the same time.

Ok thanks Richard. I'm not going to look at it until next week but I'd better take my mast climbing gear just in case it is up top. Hope not.
