Can anyone help? I'm looking for a repair agent for my auto pilot, the motor runs but doesn't drive the shaft. I'm based in Aberdeen so it'll need posting since there are no local agents. I'm obviously looking for a repair shop which is reliable and doesn't cost the earth. The previous people I used where offhand, doing me a favour, charged me a lot and didn't completly fix the unit. So recomendations of people you used and provided a satisfactroy service ...please.
Cheers

Hi Ian
You could try here: Marine Service Centre
They are used by Navman and others to repair their warranty returns.
Last time I returned something to Navman for repair it was returned to me very quickly by this repair company.
If your unit is out of warranty (and it sounds like it is) you may want to have a peek inside. They are only held together with a few screws but be careful to do this somewhere where you can contain any bits that drop out! Sounds like there is a mechanical fault with the drive, it could be quite simple to fix.
I hope this helps.
Cheers

Mike,

Thanks for the post, I couldn't get the link to work, but took your advice and opened the unit up. It's obviously the second stage drive belt that's gone, the belt which drives the screwed rod. The small gear wheel is clogged with rubber and the teeth stripped off the inside of the belt. So a simple repair if I can get the spare part.
Next question ..... to Mike or any one of the 170+ of you who looked at the first post! ..... where do I get a spare belt from?
Cheers

Send it back to Raymarine at Portsmouth (023 9269 3611). They usually reckon to complete the investigation within 10 days and if the cost is less than £65 they say they will carry on with the repair unless otherwise instructed. If it is more they will provide a quote. Our ST2000 failed in Portugal and the agent quoted over 300 Euros for a fix. I brought the unit home, sent it to Portsmouth and they did the job for £80 including labour and postage.

For those who are interested, the saga continues. I got through to a very helpful engineer at Blue V (Edinburgh), he recognised the problem and looked for the appropriate spare on the Raymarine website (authorised people only). He found a belt replacement kit, but you don't seem to be able to buy the idler cog. He said I'd need a new drive assembly .... motor and the whole lot at £85+, this seems excessive when I only need a belt and plastic gear wheel. The engineer also suggested it was better to buy a whole new ST2000+, I guess the logic is that if its that worn, other bits will soon go.
I've emailed Raymarine direct to ask if it's possible to buy the bits .... no responce as yet.
I've been carrying two spare, partially working systems, and ST2000+ and an old ST1000 (black and red), since I do quite a lot of long distance sailing ..... I don't really want 4 autohelms!
I feel that manufactures should feel obliged to sell spare parts at reasonable prices.
Cheers
