Does everyone regularly update their Raymarine plotter software. I've just done it on my new C70 plotter and got a lot of new features at no extra cost. Easy to do as well.
Download the software to your computer transfer by card reader/writer to a compact flash card. Put the compact flash card in the C70 chart slot and turn it on the software does the rest.
We have a Scandisk flashcard 64Mb - which is what Raymarine seemed to be saying the C70 was designed for but it was physically too small (as opposed to capacity). Where did you get your flash card from ?
We've got a 2year old c120 on the lower helm which is fab. I've just bought a hand held 400 which is going to be hard wired on the fly.
You can't link the two so you need two cards otherwise you have to keep swapping them. Is there a way of copying one to an ordinary flashcard? No doubt raymarine have thought of this and scrambled it, but I object to paying another £190 for another card to use on the same boat.
I bought a couple of 16mb cards on eBay a few weeks back specifically to do the upgrade and to back up the waypoint and routes files.
However, there is a known problem of some Sandisk cards not being read by the plotter. It is an issue of the type of processor in the card itself - that is to say the plotter software is waiting for someone in their programming department to upgrade the software for all types of Sandisk cards.
I think that this may get moved up the agenda once people start to upgrade and try to back up their data find a problem with some cards and report it to Raymarine
in some numbers.
Hmmm, not sure I think that these upgrades are so great... I bought my new boat, with an RL70C, then bought a new chart cartridge, then discovered that it doesn't work on some scales in some areas, so have been fleeced £55 for a software upgrade. Strikes me as a neat income stream for Raymarine. If they want to upgrade the software, shouldn't it be free? Or at least they could avoid producing cartridges that won't work without software upgrades...
The engine monitoring section in the updated manual looks fun.....It says :-
"The engine monitor application enables you to view information in the form of gauges
and digital data, from up to three compatible engines. To provide a fast update rate,
the engine data is transferred from the engine’s serial interface to your C-Series display
via NMEA2000/SeaTalk2.
Note: For details of compatible engines and related software updates, please refer
to the Raymarine website on www.raymarine.com."
So all I need is the cable to connect from my KAMd300's to Seatalk...... Can't find anything about that on their website :-(
