Raymarine SL70 Replacement

Does anyone know what units are swappable with a Raytheon SL70? I believe the RL70CRC can use the same radome - are any of the newer units compatible?

My understanding, based on a friends new installation, is that the radomes compatible with the RL displays are not comparable with the newer Raymarine plotters: he had originally been told his radome would work with the new plotter only to find that it wouldn't and he therefore has to get a new radome as well.

I'd suggest you ask Raymarine. Certainly the current generation of plotters won't be compatible, but the C-series Classic might be.

Thanks - I have emailed Raymarine but no reply as yet. I've read on one of their forums that the C-series Classic is compatible with analogue radar but nothing definitive about the SL70.

Not familiar with the SL70, but it sure looks a lot like the Pathfinder series stuff (RL70 etc.).

If it is the same (it probably is), then for compatibility with C/E series it depends on when your radome was built, as per the table at http://www.raymarine.co.uk/knowledgebase/index.cfm?view=3799 - if came with the Raytheon brand display, it'll be too old for those plotters

Thanks - that answers my question - it's 1999 Raytheon so not compatible .

I would have thought that any the new generation of plotters was much quicker in operation than the RL series, as well as having more functions and lower current usage, and unless you are looking at something akin to a free gift, buying a new one would be a better option and scarcely more expensive.

A new display and radome will be £1500 whereas I can update my existing display for £300 and sell the current one for half of that. I don't really use radar to be honest - I just want a combined unit that does both.
