I know Raymarine kit is expensive but.... their service is just brilliant.
I sent them an ST3000 that was giving me lots of problems, as it was quite old I was expecting the worst.
Raymarine confirmed back to me within a week that they had inspected the unit & because of its age & the fact that they were unable to get spares, the only way they could help was to give me a new unit at a huge discount…/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With service like this I will be changing to Raymarine for all my kit.

Re: Raymarine..no service at all!!

Oh dear, I was conned like that too. Then the second time I did some homework and found that their discount was nowhere as good as buying on the web. The third time I requested a basic repair so had something to sell - and buying new via the web actually made a profit!

That's their Sales Dept for you - VERY good at their job!
Do PM me for details.

However, their Technical Dept is also very good, and I can't fault them.

I've just had to fork out for a new ram for my ST 6000 autopilot 'cos the necessary spares for the old one are "no longer available" despite being told when I took it in that spares would be no problem. It was working, just producing an intermittent stiffness in the steering linkage. Anyway, having been promised that the new one (at discount, although not exceptional discount) would be a 1 for 1 straight swap, I bought one. No it's not a 1 for 1: the mounting lugs on the unit and associated pivot mount have changed needing the mount changing, which means filling holes in the cocpit floor and drilling new as the hole spacings are (unnecessarily) different, and fabricating a new backing plate for the same reason and ........ etc, etc. Clever marketing or product ignorance? I almost wish I'd put the original back on!!!!! How huge was your discount?

They did 20% discount trading in a bust ST50 tridata for an ST60 tridata - cheaper than I could do anywhere on the internet - I suppose the benefit is that they get some working parts for other repairs.

Yes but when a wind transducer packed up after two years they weren't very interested in helping and when the log packed up after 4 even less. Frankly it should last longer.

Garmin are really crap /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They just send you a new one

no explanation ................just a new one

cheers Joe

You may consider you had an exceptional discount but be aware that it is standard in the marine electronics business to sell products to the distribution channel at 50% of the MRRP. This allows a 2 step distribution overseas and for dealer to discount. So the manufacturer is still making his standard margin if he sells to you direct at 1/2 price! I'm not saying that Raymarine didn't give you deal that you are happy with so perhaps this a rare case of win-win. I hope you got ther old unit back as you might find an independent marine electronics company who may offer to either fix it or buy it from you for spares.

I fail to see why that is c**p service other than the absence of explanation. The unit is faulty, why it is faulty they may not know, with modern day production techniques, integrated circuits, high density of components and low price manufacture it is often not commercially viable for a company to trace the fault.

It is the user's responsibility to make sure any data stored on any electronic unit is backed up.

Thanks for all the reply's.
I was really impressed with Raymarine, as firstly they even bothered to get back to me in such a short time & the fact that they offerd me a good deal, of course they are still in it for the dosh & you don't get "nowt for nowt"
It was just so refreshing to get first class service. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The deal is for a new ST3000 control unit for £181 which if far better than any price I can get on the net, or anywhere else.

By the by, I did ask a local radio man to have a look and he said it was knacked...
