Raymarine RL80C chartplotter - No fix?

We had this problem earlier in the year. We had to reboot the system each time we went out.

As others have said and experienced the battery inside the antenna had died, it was surprisingly easy to get out and replace, the little welds / solders didn't put up much of a fight.

There is a tread on the subject somewhere else on here.

If your system is getting on a bit it could well be the GPS ant.The easy option is simply to buy a new Raymarine GPS ant(little white dome thingy somewhere on roof)
Real tightwads will try cutting open the dome and replacing the internal button cell battery poss a 2030 3V. You will need a Dremel drill with grinder and soldering iron plus a real desire to save 90.00.
When this does NOT work and anyway you have practically destroyed aerial in your attempts to open it,you will then try to find a cheaper alternative to the 250.00 that Raymarine demand for new unit.
A certain forumite (no names ) then searched Ebay for a cheap replacement knock off( 89.95) which worked perfectly the first time he connected to end of exisiting wiring to avoid having to dismantle half the boat to run new cable to miles away junction box.
Worth also a look at the Raymarine Technical Forum.

This is the obvious solution having just done it myself. The failure of the gps aerial can be analysed easily. If it's a raymarine does it have a power supply running to it? If not, throw it away and replace with the £90 eBay Evermore. You can't easily fix it. They work perfectly. If the gps has a power supply (red and black wires) check you have a circuit. If not find the break, if you have a circuit your gps has given up and replace with the Evermore. This is not the end of the world and if you don't want to do it yourself a competent electrician can fix it within an hour.

An alternative test is to go to GPSsetup on your plotter then "reboot".
If the battery has gone you should get a FIX within a couple of minutes. It will be "forgotten" when you switch off.
If you do get a FIX you could of course live with the problem. It's not that much hassle to reboot every time unless you're like me and just like everything working properly.
