Would anyone happen to know how easy it will be to source a new top cover for our Raymarine 2kw (18") radome?

The boat is currently on the wagon being transported from Essex to West Wales as I type but have had a call from the driver saying that the top plastic cover has blown off the radome, landed in the cockpit and now has a chunk out of it. There are no screws to be found in any of the fixings so looks like someone has either taken them out to look at possibly removing the radome for transport and forgotten to put them back in or they were never fitted at the factory :( Boat has hardly been used since new so a possibility I guess.

I do not yet know the extent of the damage to it but am just wondering whether I will be able yo source just a top cover (assuming no water damage during the trip) or may have to buy a complete new radome.

Thanks

There was a new Raymarine top cover as you describe on Ebay recently, around £50 at close, not that I know the real cost from raymarine but I thought it was a bit pricey.

I have if interested a very clean Raymarine/Raytheon complete outer case for a 2kw radome, not new but in very good condition, send a PM if interested & I will send you a photo.

PS its badged raytheon but is the exact same fitting as the Raymarine.

Raymarine definitely sell spares. Their US website does it directly online, dunno about in UK but they will sell you spares if you contact them in Portsmouth or wherever

Thanks guys. I am on my way to meet the lorry at a near transport stop as the driver has been unable to make the unit watertight. Lucky for me he is passing within 10 minutes of my house on his way to the marina 100 miles further on. I will be taking lots of tools with me to ensure she is made watertight until it can be replaced. Hopefully, at this moment it is just a cover replacement rather than a complete new radome replacement.

What I do not uinderstand is the downloadable installation manual says the screws holding the cover on are captive screws so goodness knows how there are no screws in either the cover or outer case now. And of course no one (boat yard or transport guy) will admit to removing those screws which only leaves the option that they were never inserted at the Sealine factory when she was built 4 1/2 years ago. Yeah, I'm sure we'll all believe that it has managed to last all that time with o retaining screws.

Enterprise - will contact you later re your complete case to see if we can sort something out.

@ Enterprise

Would you be able to tell me within the next 5 minutes what screws or boilts are used to hold the cover on. I have 10 mins to get to the local store and buy some (or find some in my garage) to ensure it is secured properly

Thanks

Radome enclosure

Sorry, dome enclosure is at home, will be able to let you know but not within the time required.
At a guess they would be approx 4mm dia, 20mm long, but just a guess.

Well, not a happy bunny at the moment. Met the driver and bagged the radome. Had they prepared the boat properly for transport. Not likely.

They put the boat on the trailer backwards and did not think to remove or tape down the chart table Perspex cover. Lo and behold when I got there all that was left of that was a piece the size of my hand wedged under the windshield. The rest of it, hinges included, must be along the M25 or M4 somewhere. Stupid idiots. Who do you reckon I claim off.

  • Previous owner for not preparing her for transport thoroughly
  • Boat yard where she was hoisted (and stored for last 2 weeks), again for not preparing her for transport correctly
  • or, the transport company again for not doing full and proper checks following preparation.

I think the transport company as they have ultimate responsibility. As you can imagine the shine has been taken off the whole affair and I am not at all happy.

I assisted a bloke change his when the orginal one blew away and sunk....So its not an uncommon problem. There was an unholy mess underneath as the unit had been leaking water into the gears and emulsified.

Raymarine portsmouth supplied replacement (£100 I think) and its screwed into place (4-6) I think.
