i had prof. installed ray marine radar may 2004 complete with new gyro compass to enable MARPA.my problem is that thecourse computer seems to be confused by the new compass. i understand that this may be a common problem. RAYMARINE seem to be most UNHELPFUL when approached by my installer [who is a RAYMARINE DEALER].HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCE OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS.Iwould advice caution if planning to fit this equipment since my set up is entirely raymarine and all items are under 12 months old.Inidentally the system with the new 12inch flat screen and 4kw scanner is brilliant with the exception of the non functioning marpa

I am a Raymarine dealer I have always found Raymarine to have excellent support, in fact I would go as far as saying probably the best I have come across in the marine industry.

Raymarine have a 'Simon' in Portsmouth, possibly one of the most helpful souls I have ever had dealings with in the marine industry.

Try calling and asking directly for Simon, he should at the very least get your problem moving toward a working system.

Have you checked the NMEA / Sea Talk settings in the system menu, you may need to alter it to get the radar to see the compass.

my problem is raymarine do not seem to want to talk with my dealer/ installer.my dealer is very anxious to talk with raymarine since i have not yet paid him for the system [appro 5000 pounds] perhaps i will try simon tomorrow or perhaps i will continue to use this otherwise excellent radar for free[ihave already crossed biscay twice this year and plan further single handed cruise south britany in 2 weeks] at the end of the season i suppose i could hand it back to raymarine since marpa was a major factor in choosing this system

I also have a problem with my colour radar system, at the weekend I quite clearly saw a red ship that showed up as grey on the screen , the same thing happened with a green buoy .. I've phoned them to complain and get a replacement but I must admit they were a tad less than helpful.

I've just had my aged 600XX/RL9 radar/plotter unit back to Raymarine for repair and can't fault their service, support or communication, other than the fact that it's the first time I've ever dealt with a company who repair a unit first, then ring you and give you the estimate!!!!
(Apparently they do it to make sure that what they are quoting for will actually repair the thing and very few people don't accept the estimate......those that do have their unit "unrepaired" and returned to them!!!)
Admirable!

Nick

If you are talking about a C-Series plotter/radar, check that the option to "bridge the compass to Seatalk" is NOT enabled. The pilot's course computer would (presumeably) have it's own fluxgate compass. It may well be confused if the C-Series is also broadcasting compass data onto Seatalk from off NMEA where your new gyro-compass plugs in. I cannot remember the menu sequence offhand. I'll check tonight for you if you still need an answer by then. It's in one of the setup menus.

When there are problems with Raymarine kit, there is only one reference point to go to. That's the UK Raymarine development engineer who backs MBM - Dave Wellcome, on 02392 693 611 extension 1614. He has helped many Forumites. His knowledge cannot be beaten, and neither can he! He is happy to take calls from us.

raymarine have at last spoken with us and are to replace my old course computer with a new version that has its own integrated gyro under warrenty.this ends this correspondance and probably justifies those who have spoken highly of raymarine. i will update you asto its performance when it is fitted.

Thanks for this update. I would be most interested to hear how the gyro pilot performs, particularly in boistrous seas and gusty winds. I have an old pilot (not Raymarine) with no gyro and am considering upgrading to a pilot with one.
