The scanner on my radar has gone kaput, for a couple of months have been getting an intermittent fault shown as "Scanner Not Responding" but after switching off and re-booting I have always been able to get it to work. Not this weekend though.

I have checked all the connections and they appear to be OK so I removed the dome (it's the "2d" 2 Kw 18") with a view to finding someone locally who can have a look at it for me, I am in Plymouth.

First question, anyone got any recommendations? I am hoping there will be be an installer with a rig who can just run a test on the dome.

Secondly, Is it going to be cheaper to just purchase a new dome, assuming there are still some around. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks in anticipation.

Having the same problem with the same set up, but not to the point of it going totally kaput.

Ours was caused by a lose connection on the back of the display unit I think and am hoping it is now sorted.

Bloody Raymarine :(

I had the "scanner not responding" on an old RL70 which was cured by cleaning the pins in the multi-pin plug using some foam backed sanding pad. Quick rub took a couple of minutes.

The "scanner not responding" is a known problem/glitch with E series displays. Raymarine include a leaflet with some of them, admitting to it. They recommned a separate power switch for the radar, so you can switch on its power supply independently, after you have powered up the E120. Because the problem goes away by rebooting, as you say

But that doesn't solve your totally kaput scanner, sorry

I had an intermittent problem with my RL70C where it would display a message saying the scanner was not responding but next time out in the boat it was ok - then stop again etc. Cleaning the contacts made no difference. Eventually took it to Greenham Regis in Lymington. They found that the motor drive position sensor had a dead spot. Replaced the sensor - all ok.
