I have a Raymarine R70 in the cockpit (removable) - the red on/off button seems to have stopped working. You use this to turn the unit on but also to start the radar. If I cycle the power it comes on fine but can't access the radar options...
Any ideas?

Thanks, J

If you remove it from the cockpit when not in use are the connector pins protected on the leads? If corroded the signals from the antenna may not be getting through.

You could try resetting to factory defaults, I think you hold the second button from the left whilst powering on...
There is also a menu option somewhere to do the same..

Worth a try, seen allsorts of wierd problems with the c70, mikes ideas are also sound in a removable situation, check the plugs.

I think the unit tries to find the radar on power up and if it isn't there the radar options won't be available. When you press "display" do you get the radar option or is it plotter and track only? If the latter then maybe the connection to the radar (either power or data) has failed

I had so many problems with my R70, I left it on the pontoon in Crosshaven an hour before setting off across Biscay!

Would always power up, everything worked, ok then no picture could see the sweep going around but nowt else. Then, a miricle, it worked again, then it stopped again. It carried on doing this working sometimes for 20 mins no problem everything worked. Then it would stop working again. Tried all the reset functions, factory reset the works. Even got a 'radar man' to check it out. Supposedly all ok.

So I just gave and saved the weight, took it all off and mounted a Solar pannel on the bracket instead.

Hope you manage to sort it.

Sounds like you'll need to get it fixed. Shouldn't be a big job. If you're fairly competent, you could probably get at the switch yourself and clean it.

If you want another one i've got one going begging.. its the one with no slot for chart card, the secondary unit.

PM me and we'll sort it - donation to the RNLI will sort
