I have a RM es97 plotter and have successfully i/f to the a/p thus giving me "Heading" on the plotter and "steer to WPT" on the a/p. However the plotter shows "No Pilot". I am also
unable to steer to wind even though I have an i50 wind display wired in to the network. This is no big deal really but wondered about why. I guess the a/p doesn't understand any NMEA wind sentences on the RM network, but am also puzzled as to why the plotter shows "no pilot". All wired in accordance to the manuals and your advice Paul !!

I don't know what i/f means, but... you don't mention the make of the autopilot but if RM is Raymarine and the autopilot is not Raymarine then it may be able to read the NMEA output but the Raymarine display probably won't be able to recognise or control the plotter. I asked a similar question recently.

That's to be expected. The plotter will only be sending/recieving some data from the AP, it cannot control it, hence the message. You'd need a Raymarine AP for the plotter to recognise i.

The i50 is on the STNg network, so it's possible that the plotter doesn't pass all of that data to the 0183 output. You'd need to check what sentences the AP is expecting for "Wind Vane" mode and make sure the plotter is putting them out, make sure your plotter software is up to date. If the sentence is being sent, make sure the AP has been configured with the boat type as a sailboat.

If the sentence is not being output, the only alternative would be to install some form of STNg to 0183 adaptor and use that to interface the plotter and AP.

Thanks so much for that info Paul .
