I was about to sell my new Navionics MSD chart because it didn't fit the Raymarine C series chartplotter format when someone suggested it might work using an adapter. After investigation, it turns out Raymarine supply an MSD - CF adapter For just this purpose under part number A62311 for a mere £45 or so.

There are other adapters on the market from £4.99 upwards. My question is, will all the MSD - SD adapters do the same job and is all the input from the MSD pins mapped to the output of the CF pins in an identical way. Or to put it more bluntly, will a £4.99 unknown brand adapter perform as well as the Raymarine branded product?

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers, Brian.

Read this last week at this site

NEW: Navionics Multi Card Reader no longer required for chips sold after April 2010 - simply plug in the Navionics chip to any generic card reader, internet-activate and copy the charts to your hard drive - read more...

So if you software is newer than April 2010 seems as though your 4.99 squid special might be fine ....

Hello Brian

Did you get one of the cheap adapters and if so, did it work? Looks like I might have the same issue to tackle.

Cheers

Hi, I did buy a couple of different adapters on eBay but they won't work! I think the Raymarine adapter has custom built circuitry for the cartography. However you can buy the Raymarine adapters fairly easily from Raymarine dealers, they cost approx. £35 or so. I don't need one until end of April when I install my chart plotter on the boat in Mallorca so I'm hoping to spot one on eBay before then but so far, no joy! if you do find something which works, please let me know by PM though I don't think you will I'm afraid.

Cheers, Brian.

Rather annoyingly you can buy one of these in the states for $29 (about £18.50) but they all seem to want around $80 for shipping

Looks like £35 plus postage is about the cheapest I can find over this side of the pond.

I'll leave eBay to you, no point in us getting into a bidding war. I'll probably bite the bullet and pay full whack.

Looking to upgrade E80 there seems to be a maximum size of CF card thar you can use ie 256mb
These cards are more dificult to get except on line
Have ordered them and will see how we get on .
