Raymarine has just announced this upgrade to 4.9.

My system is an Axiom 9 + linked to instruments, autopilot, and AIS in a very cruising type boat: Barbary ketches don't have polar diagrams, and i don't use cameras or other apps. Everything works, and i don't feel i am missing any functionality.

Is the upgrade worth the hassle?

You could say why not, but previously, an upgrade failed to update the EV1 heading sensor, which had to be replaced because our local dealer couldn't get it to update, and it became an expensive paperweight.

The website says if you run certain upgrades you have to fo an intermediate upgrade to 4.7 something before 4.9, mine is 4.5.84.

I can't help feeling if it works don't meddle?

What does the forum think?

Personally I wouldn't bother with an update. I tried to update my raymarine es9 years ago. I've never really managed to find out if it did, but since then I have left it alone.
I nearly updated the Navionics charts but garmin have altered the areas covered by my original ones so I have avoided the agro ! I have found that the land hasn't moved and all the main buoys are generally in the correct location and the almanac (new each year) covers the changes to harbours and entrances.

If it works OK leave it alone

One improvement I've spotted is that the anchor alarm now allows you to manually adjust the anchor position.

Looks like you still have to press a button when you think the anchor's hit the bottom under the bow - but at least you can now adjust this afterwards to account for it dragging while setting.

Hopefully you can spoof through the anchor wizard after anchoring, and then just manually set the current anchor position.

When I have anchored and am happy with my position, I turn the plotter off usually so i wouldn't use thqt facility routinely!

I've had more than one incident where a v4 upgrade has screwed it up and the incredible thing is that there's no roll-back provision. You have to load an old version to SD chip and re-install it, assuming you have the means aboard. I really don't understand why they burn their bridges like this. And another gripe. The upgrades are more 'app' related than chart plotter. I really don't want to control my underwater lights (as if..) just use it for its real purpose.
