My trusty i50 resets the trip counter to 0 every time the engine is started. Any bright ideas? I think it’s always done it, newly installed last season.
Thanks for your help. I guessed it was due to power drop, both batteries are fine, I wondered if there was some sort of wiggle-woggle I could fit. I’ll try the switch off suggestion.
Raymarine suggested this:
This sounds like the instrument is resetting due to a power brownout, rather like the car radio goes off when the car engine is started. This could be a high resistance connection in the power supply to the i50, and maybe a simple power line conditioner would be all that is needed - this device simply holds up the supply voltage momentarily while the engine starts and the voltage dips.
Bear in mind when an engine starts it can take a massive current momentarily and even with new batteries depending where the power take off for the electrics and electronics is located, this surge can cause a dip in voltage and trigger the instrument reset.
I’m not sure what a power line conditioner is, am awaiting their response.
