has anybody fitted a hailer to a raymarine 230e. which i think can be used as automated fog horn plus can be used as loud hailer?
is it straightforward to wire etc.

ok thanks.just what i was hoping to hear. seems sensible to me to go this route rather than hand held fog horn, with spare cans etc.

Hi,
I did not do the wiring but had a large horn fitted to my Raymarine 240E and it works a treat in auto foghorn mode. It is loud - I suspect the listeners expects something bigger coming out the fog at them than our yacht - but very comforting to be able to blast out correct signals without thinking about it.
We had our horn fitted to the bottom of our anchor well lid. It keeps if off the mast and out the way in normal circustances - and we simply lift and clip back the lid when we wish to use it.
Cheers
JOHN

Yes, we have exactly that combo. Connections dead easy, the usual Raymarine plug and play. Works fine. Operates as a directional listener as well as a hailer so can eavesdrop the next boat in the anchorage. when hailing, you tell it which signal (tweep tweep, whoa whoa, neenah neenah etc) from the 230e handset, but you have to use the function keys and it isn't very intuitive. You need the manual
