Raymarine GPS Reciver batteries

The Navcenter has those features and works admirably, its only real shortcomings (from the neophiliac perspective, not mine) being its green screen and it inability to display the radar and sonar pictures as well! I'm not getting into an argument about the detail of my setup; my beef is with the loaded (to the point of terminological inexactitude) advice provided by RM, which chimes with the OP's unhappiness.
 
Really useful thread. Our RM GPS125 has been increasingly slow in obtaining a fix. I spent ages checking and cleaning contacts to not avail. I've now bought a new battery which will hopefully solve the problem.

An update...and further advice perhaps..

I have levered out the battery, tried to get a reasonable connection with an ordinary lithium cell, which is not getting a result...

BUT ..

The consensus is that the battery only helps get a quick fix on switching on, as it drives a memory, so I have left the plotter on for a while (once for about 3 hours, once for 48 hours) and I am still not getting a fix.

this is suggesting to me that the battery may be a red herring, that I have another more terminal (boom boom) issue.

Before I go off and buy another GPS mushroom, any other bright ideas? I'd hate to buy one and then find that the issue is something else!

Turn all the power off. (ALL)

Put a metal biscuit tin lid above the gps to block signal. Turn it all back on and leave it on for a while.

This advice was from one of the online posts about this problem.

Worked for me.
 
I don't know what you mean by levering out the battery. Mine was soldered in on 2 legs welded to the lithium cell. I cut the legs off leaving enough to solder to. Put in a lithium cell in a holder in the spare space to the side and soldered the 2 wires on to the remainder of the legs, using the correct polarity.
I then put the unit back on the boat and connected up the 5 or 6 wires, that i had had to cut to remove it.
It then took a few hours, (I also thought it wasn't going to work!) to get the fix and has worked normally for the last 2 years.
The boat must be stationary to get a fix.

When the battery in my Raystar 120 died I couldn't get a fix at all no matter how long I left it.
However, it would get a fix if I did a factory reset of the plotter unit (instructions in manual). Then it would keep the fix as long as it was kept powered up.

A boat electronics tech came to have a look today, he had offered previously to solder in the battery I had sourced, he took one look at my RayStar 112 and said....nah

He went off to get a Digital Yacht GPS antenna from his stock (less than half the price of a Raymarine) , said he would hook it up and see if it worked, bingo , it did straight out of the box, and then he didn't charge me for his time fitting it

So I'm sorted... Bit more than the cost of a new lithium battery, but much less than I feared...

A raymarine RL70C from 2002... Bit of an antique !! Still does the job though

I was tempted to switch to a funky new generation multi device but when I worked out what it would cost to replace everything, I decided to wait for the moment to pass, and either for a windfall of some sort of for something significant to fail ( well the mushroom is significant, in that nothing much works without it, but the cost of the switch was pretty modest.)
