I am searching for anyone with installing an external GPS antenna to a Raymarine Axiom 7 experience. I was told by a outsourced customer service rep of Raymarine that I needed a RS150 with a receiver. I believe that he was mistaken, that the Axiom already has a receiver. If there as anyone out there that can suggest what Raymarine GPS antenna is needed I would truly appreciate it.

The Axiom has built in antenna and does not normally require an external one. It does not have an input to connect an external dumb antenna to its receiver, but it can be set to use any GPS data that is available via a connected SeatalkNG/ NMEA2000 network.

I don't have experience of the Axiom, and my old Raymarine plotter C120W is in the cockpit. But on my boat (GRP, 38 feet), the VHF has a GPS receiver that works perfectly behind the panel under the side deck next to the chart table without any external GPS aerial. Likewise the AIS which came with an external aerial but I didn't need it as it receives postion data fine with its internal GPS aerial below decks. It might be different with a steel boat I guess.

So it's worth trying your Axiom without the external antenna. If it works, problem solved. If it doesn', then you're going to need the antenna.

My C120W orginally had a separate antenna but when that popped its clogs I switched to the internal one and it works fine, but asI said that's in the cockpit.
