Does anyone have any experience of buying Raymarine equipment from the US. It seems that it is almost half price over there. Comments Please?

Thanks Kevin

Half price?

Don't think it's half price. Maybe two-thirds, but by the time you've added shipping, duty and VAT, it's very close to UK prices.

My current online shopping list for Raymarine later this month.

RD424 24" 4 Kw Radome
Raytech RNS 5.0 Software for laptop
ST70 Colour Mutifunction Instrument
Speed pod for above
Wind pod for above
Depth pod for above
AIS250 Receiver
E80 Display for console
Ray 240 DSC VHF
Raystar 125 DGPS receiver
B744V Tridata Transducer
DSM 300 Digital sounder module
Wind vane
Seatalk and NMEA bits & pieces & cables etc

I expect change from $10,000 and at the current rate = £5000

E80 display from Marine Store at the moment = £1749.95 = £3500

no contest

I am just lucky the boat is in the US at the moment.

Hi. I bought a couple of items last year and it was almost half the price but after the customs chaps put their slice on plus the postage and insurance it was almost the same. If the items are sent with a note on the customs label saying that they are replacements for faulty goods then you have a good chance of not paying the import duty. You wouldn't catch me doing that though! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No one has yet explained why the price differential in the first place, given that the items are all assembled in Hungary from far eastern componants they should be cheaper in Europe. The same situation existed when Raymarine manufactured / assembled in Portsmouth. I supose the answer is its sells for what people are prepared to pay it.
